The concept of a “filling” is replacing and restoring your tooth structure that is damaged due to decay or fracture with a material. Dentistry has evolved with the advancements of science and technology. These changes have brought about a wide range of treatment options to consider, including various types of materials that can be used for fillings.
Material selection is dictated by various factors such as the needs of the patient, the specific situation and location of the teeth that requires fillings. For some patients, cost of the material is the most important factor, while aesthetic appearance of the filling is most important to others. Some others yet, may consider longevity to be the most important. Sometimes however, because of the nature of the problem, there might be only one good treatment plan. More often than not however, the patient would have the liberty to make a choice from various materials. These choices include silver fillings, tooth-colored fillings, white fillings and composite fillings. Whatever the case, rest assured that our Dentist is willing and able to advise and guide you through your decision.
After the process, it is important to maintain your fillings. You can do this by simply observing good oral hygiene practices such as regular visits for cleanings, using toothpaste that contains fluoride, and flossing at least once daily.
